‘Magical Towns’: Authentic Mexico off the beaten path
Mark Rogers, Special for USA TODAY
Sayulita is one of the Pueblos Mágicos that is noteworthy for its ambiance and energy, rather than its historical sites. This surf-centric town north of Puerto Vallarta has a beautiful beach setting in the Riviera Nayarit region. Most people seek out Sayulita for its laid-back nature, great seafood (including fish tacos that run about a $1) and its hip shops, especially the celebrated Revolucion Del Sueno. Another highlight of a Sayulita visit is the opportunity to view and buy the brightly colored artwork of the region’s indigenous Huichol Indians.
